DWTS 22 Debut
Dancing with the Stars has finally returned! The first episode certainly did not disappoint.
The good:
My favorite dance of the night was definitely Wanya Morris. The guy's got some serious moves.
The bad:
Sorry, Mischa Barton and Doug Flutie, you just couldn't hang with the rest.
The worst:
20 seasons later, DWTS has finally found the next Kenny Mayne. It's... Geraldo Rivera! (Can we also take a moment to appreciate how much better the camera work has gotten over the past 20 seasons?!)
The biggest surprise:
Nyle DiMarco was awesome. He made it hard to believe that he's deaf and can't actually hear the music.
The biggest relief:
After getting stuck with Lolo Jones (cringe) and Charlotte McKinney (cringe) in past seasons, Keo now has a decent partner in Jodie Sweetin. The poor guy deserves a break and finally got it.
The rest:
This season's athletes are an impressive bunch. Paige VanZant was much better than I thought a UFC fighter would be (and actually, a really good dancer - especially for week 1). Von Miller and Antonio Brown also had good first dances. Both are paired with excellent pros and will be competitors to watch for.
Ginger Zee had a good performance, while Marla Maples and Kim Fields were fine - neither were particularly good or bad in my opinion.
Missing from the show this year are Derek and Julianne Hough. I honestly can't say that I missed either of them. J is disappointed that Emma isn't a pro this year but I think the return of Edyta makes up for it a little.
This is shaping up to be a great season of dancing!

I really like Nyle, Wanya, Marla, Jodie. The athletes will stay in a long time. I was horrified during the rehearsal package when Artem was so negative about Mischa! Usually the actors will at least act their way through, but the poor thing now looks terrified to be there.
